A New Family. A Better BackHub

We built the first version of BackHub simply because we needed it. There was no secure backup solution for our GitHub repositories. GitHub had become, and still is, a linchpin in our project development process.

It’s where we communicate everything from epics and stories to actual tasks. And from product specifications to the definition of done.

Simply put, GitHub is where work happens.

Since we needed backups of everything and a way to archive our inactive repositories in GitHub, our team created BackHub. But no good idea stays a secret for long.

Over time, other teams using GitHub heard about what we had built. They also saw the value of having ongoing backups to protect their work.

It was that interest that led us to launch BackHub as a service. Since then, our team has worked tirelessly to keep improving upon that first version of BackHub.

Now, thousands of repositories are being protected across the world and we are extremely thankful to every customer who has put their trust and faith in us.

We had originally planned to stay the course and grow the business as is. However, a new opportunity presented itself. One that we couldn’t pass up.

So what happens now?

As of today, BackHub joins the team at Rewind – the leading provider of SaaS backup solutions.

Rewind has built Backup-as-a-Service solutions for BigCommerce, QuickBooks Online, Shopify, and Shopify Plus, has launched a beta for Trello, and is now protecting over 33 billion data points globally.

We had started talking to the team at Rewind in 2020, with some low-key ideas about partnering together on projects.

Yet it quickly became clear that we shared common values and goals.

There was an aligned vision to protect as many cloud and SaaS applications as possible. To help businesses safeguard the information they rely on. To keep data safe, the lights on, and the wheels turning. Joining forces with Rewind allows for the pursuit of this goal, in ways we had never dreamed possible.

The only change is more value for you.

There will be no change to the BackHub product: your Git repositories are still safely backed up. However, partnering with Rewind is going to allow us to bring BackHub to even more users, and protect even more data. Going forward, BackHub customers will soon benefit from:

  • More support for the following North American time zones: AST, EST, CST, MST, PST
  • Data storage in the USA
  • EU customer data stays in the EU
  • A larger development team that will continue to build more great features.
  • Access to Rewind’s complete suite of products

I and the rest of the BackHub team are excited to join our new partners at Rewind.

Our passion still lies in helping development teams protect their code in GitHub, and possibly other software development platforms. Now with the combined resources of Rewind, we think our journey is truly just getting started.

We hope you come along for the ride. Please reach out to me directly if you have any questions or concerns. You can learn more about BackHub on our website.
